Why Do We Have A Uniform?

There are a number of reasons why a uniform is an important part of a dance studio.​

  • They allow teachers to see the dancer clearly to ensure they are using the correct muscles when dancing to prevent injuries and correct technique.

  • Uniforms clearly show posture and alignment.

  • Having everyone in the same uniform promotes equality.

  • Promotes understanding and respect of the traditions of dance and reinforces that there are rules and expectations in the dance space.

 

McIntosh Dance Company Uniform

Each style of dance has a uniform particular to the requirements of that style of dance. Uniforms are required for both boys and girls.

For information on where to purchase the uniform, please check out the uniform document on the Parent Portal. Most uniform items can be purchased through the Parent Portal under the Online Store option.

If you don't have your uniform available for the first few classes, don't worry - just wear athletic wear until your new uniform arrives. Our expectation is that everyone is wearing their uniform each class. 

Ballet

Girls​

  • Black leotard

  • Black ballet skirt - optional

  • Pink ballet tights

  • Ballet shoes

  • Black crossover top

  • Hair tied back off the face in a braid or bun

Boys

  • Black shorts

  • White t-shirt

  • White socks

  • Black ballet shoes

  • Black jumper in colder weather

  • Hair out of eyes

Highland

Girls

 

  • Black leotard or singlet

  • Black skort

  • Highland shoes

  • Black crossover top

  • Hair tied back off the face in a ponytail, braid or bun

 

Boys

 

  • Black shirt

  • Black shorts

  • Highland shoes

Little Groovers

Option 1: 

As for the ballet uniform

  • Leggings or shorts and a close fitting shirt (no jeans or denim shorts)

  • Tutu or other dance costume that is easy to move in
